Music Videos That I Like So Far.

1. "Her Morning Elegance"

Still the best of the best of the year.

2. "King Rat"
Dir. Heath Ledger

This video really comes across as scary, violent and that was the point. The music video is a protest against illegal Whaling that happens off the coast of Australia.

3. "Life in Technicolor ii"

Genius

4. "Welcome To Heartbreak"

I still have no idea how they could have done this. The glitch look still confuses me to this day, and it makes the video look broken. Which is the point, Kanye is trying to pull himself together through out this album but this is the song that starts the heartbreak. The video looks like there is something wrong with it, and that feeling applies to Kanye. Him and his Cosby sweater.

5. "The Reeling"

Passion Pit's "The Reeling" is really nothing unusual. The song sounds like a cursing song for white twenty-somethings. The kid chorus, the three synthesizer keyboards, the falsetto voice, all scream indie-pop that should really only be appealing on a subconscious level, you shouldn't really focus on the lyrics or the instrumentality but how the song makes you feel, e.t.c.

The video knows this. The video is pretty much about a party, and some young kinds going to it along the while there's a paper motif as to say that this song is somewhat see through. And so is the video.

The video is aware of what the song is, and brings us nothing else than what the song is trying to do. This song is fun, the video is. Cept the video adds the layering paper editing technique to blow people out of the water, cause they aren't expecting such work to really go into a piece this shallow, and to this day I still don't know how to do this.

Conclusion: This video knows what it is, so it gives us the song, the feeling of the song, along with something extra for us to gawk at. And for that I applaud that the bells and whistles are some of the best ones I've seen in a while.

6. "Let The Beat Build"

Nyle is somewhat new. He's in college, he makes an EP or two sometimes when he's not busy with school, his stuff is okay, it's like a lot of indie rap artists but mixed with the playfulness Busta Rhymes had back in the 1990's.

So, with the talent this kid already posses - which, don't get me wrong, is great for his age - a long with the talent of the director make this video that is all done in one take, it was mixed in the studio, during this one take...

Fucking astounding.
These are college kids too.
Probably in their really early twenties.

Damn...

7. "Treat Me Like Your Mother"

Okay, now this video is just badass.

8. "Strawberry Swing"

I know two Coldplay songs in one list. Well, they're both really good. And they even made an iPod Touch/iPhone app about the music video so there's that as well. The chalk congers up ideas of elementary school playtime merriment which works with the feel good/romantic vibe of the song. Plus to add a cherry on top to this, the design for the video is spectacular and think about all of the hours that went into this video. I think it would have taken months.

9. Day 'n' Nite (Crookers Remix) (Versions 1 & 2)

I feel that these two videos really need each other. The first one is the earlier one, and lets face it, it's shallow music video and the only great thing about it is the editing as well as the party vibes you get from it.
The second one has the editing as well but in a different way, the film is layered upon another take of the scene and it makes the view seem like we're experiencing something that we've already seen before (which works out of context with the music video narrative and in context with the narrative) and it's just a fucking cool video. Whatever. I hate you.

10. "Two Weeks" (Fan Version)

This guy must be a big fan of Grizzly Bear cause this is straight up devotion.

Worth mentioning:
1. "Run This Town"
2. "Make Her Say"
